What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese spiritual practice and relaxation technique. Reiki is an elegant, gentle and powerful energy therapy. The word Reiki means universal life force energy. Reiki practitionersโ€™ channel clean, clear, high-vibrational, universal life force energy to the client; transforming, rewiring and fortifying their โ€œenergy structureโ€, escorting in feelings of calm, peace and wellness. Reiki is practiced with clients fully clothed lying comfortably on a massage table. Reiki is considered a โ€œhands-on healingโ€ modality. A practitionerโ€™s hands can be placed either on or hovering over a specific area of the body, sharing the Reiki energy as intuited.

What can I expect in a Reiki session with Machi?

Machi begins by reviewing the clientโ€™s intake form and discussing what they would like to address; physically, emotionally and spiritually. Setting the intention for the session creates the sacred space and quietude that aligns Machi with her client and starts the momentum for the session. Machi will slowly scan the auric fields above her clientโ€™s body to โ€œlistenโ€ for and to pick up energy stagnation and blockages. Or, she may start moving through the standard Reiki hand positions, placing her hands, balancing chakras, improvising where her intuition takes her. Machi may decide to tone- a vocal sound therapy that quickens and raises the energetic vibration; use a pendulum to help read the clientโ€™s energy; or draw a quick sketch of what she feels. After the session, Machi will share her findings, answer questions, offer resources, assign gentle โ€˜homework’, and share recommendations for follow-up sessions. Clients often leave feeling lighter, clearer, relaxed and seeking more rest.

What are the benefits of Reiki energy?

Reiki energy goes where it is needed most. It goes into the area of the body that needs clearing, attention and rebalance. Reiki moves the body out of the โ€œfight and flightโ€ mode into the โ€œrest and restoreโ€ mode and โ€œkickstartsโ€ the self-healing mechanism. Reiki helps clients manage depression, anxiety, pain, grief and loneliness by transforming low, slow, stagnant energy into faster, brighter, calmer energy. Reiki recharges. It boosts immunity. It is a good complementary therapy for cancer treatments and surgeries. Reiki helps the brain release the fatigue of over processed, repetitive and controlling thought patterns. It liberates clientsโ€™ intuition, wisdom and expands consciousness. Itโ€™s kind of like finding a shady resting spot on a hot day and being given a cool drink of water or jumping through a sprinkler! It refreshes. Reiki resolves resistance and fear, eventually opening the door for joy, innocence, wellbeing, and even silliness to enter!

Is there any preparation I can do before and after a session?

Itโ€™s really great if the Element Client Intake Form can be filled out before the session, mostly the โ€œwhy you are coming inโ€ section. This gives Machi time to focus, ahead of the session, on the clientโ€™s concerns, intentions and wishes for treatment. Wearing comfortable clothing to the session allows for deeper relaxation. For a day or two after the session, itโ€™s good to drink plenty of water to hydrate and to help the Reiki energy stay within the body.
