Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on technique that encourages proper alignment of the cranial bones for better cerebrospinal fluid movement through the spine and brain. Craniosacral can help to restore elasticity and necessary movement of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal column. This therapy is not painful or uncomfortable and often creates a sense of calmness. During a session a client will lay, clothed, on the table. The therapist will lightly place their hands on areas of the head, neck, upper chest, abdomen, feet, and back to subtly feel movements within the craniosacral system. The therapist will gently apply pressure to skillfully manipulate cranial bones and associated sutures and joints into better placement. Improper alignment, as well as soft tissue adhesion and strictures throughout the body, can impede optimal function of the nervous system as well as the physical body. Common conditions often treated with craniosacral include various pain- related conditions including headaches, migraines, neck, and jaw pain; fascial restrictions; post concussion or head injuries; neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease; multiple sclerosis; temporo-mandibular joint syndrome; and stroke.
