Trying to keep your kid’s excessive Halloween candy out of the house and not in your kid’s mouth? Or your own?
If you have a young child going door-to-door and shouting “trick or treat!” then you have seen just what fills the Halloween bag or bucket: a collection of fun but unhealthy sugary products mixed with heavy-duty preservatives, additives, paraffins, and food dyes. A good way to rid your children of some of these Halloween treats would be to encourage them to choose a handful of favorite pieces and then give the rest to other crazy kids in costume who come to YOUR door or stoop (if you live here in NYC). Or they could indulge themselves on that one special night of the year, but then, the next day, share the fruits of their labor by putting a bowl of candy out in common areas of your building, or taking it to activities with other kids, like clubs or practices. This is a great way to limit the candy and teach your child to share.
