Our hustle-and-bustle lifestyle definitely has its perks, including a vast range of cultural experiences, food and restaurants, and activities for every interest. We work to live and live to work, however, so we must make sure to find balance and peace.

Here are 10 ideas to fold into your workweek, and all of these are cell phone-free! That’s right, cell phone-free. Putting down your cell phone, being present in the moment, and focused on something other than emails and social media will liberate you and free your mind. The rest will follow!

1. Run. Running is free, has no time limit, and does not compete with you. You can see many new sights along the way. The endorphins that kick in give you a natural high to re-set your day. And as a runner, I often come across new restaurants and other hidden gems on my runs through Red Hook. If you are not able to run, then get out and walk. A brisk walk can serve the same purpose and is a great long-term investment in you.

2. Bike. Another great way to enjoy the city and get some exercise. Exploring the many wonderful bike paths in both Brooklyn and Manhattan is even easier now with Citi Bike. Just watch out for those meandering tourists walking in the bike lanes or careening down a street the wrong way!

3. Sit in a park and just observe. Or check out the view from your stoop. People watching is fascinating and even comical. It reminds you that we are all human, no matter how hot, sticky, and loud other people can seem in the heat of summer. And laughter is wonderful medicine for the soul.

4. Enjoy some outdoor music. There are many free outdoor musicย eventsย throughout the city every summer. Lean back and enjoy the groove or get up and dance to your heart’s content.

5. Swim. It is summer time, which means that the cityโ€™s many free public swimming pools are open. Jumping in that cold water is refreshing and can recreate that carefree childhood feeling.

6. Sit outside at one of New Yorkโ€™s lovely cafes. Have some iced tea or coffee and relax with a good book.

7. Visit a museum. Museums offer a wealth of thought-provoking content, as well as air-conditioned comfort. Educational and beautiful!

8. Meditate. Find a time every day to relax and meditate. Come up with a mantra that is both positive and motivational.

9. Yoga. It combines meditation and exercise. A wonderful duo!

10. Sit by an open window, feel the breeze, breathe the fresh air, and just be thankful that you are both who you are and where you are today.
