The New Year is here, 2015!
With the new year can come many expectations. Sometimes people face January 1st already feeling defeated by their own expectations and goals to accomplish. Well, one option is focus on the Chinese New Year, which falls on Thursday, February 19th. So, if January 1st felt like your ultimate do-or-die deadline, then think about making Chinese New Year your goal. Don’t just give up now, you have another chance! You can also give yourself a little break and allow yourself the first few weeks of January to set your priorities, establish your goals, and start to acclimate to change.
Along with your health goals, there are certainly other things on your list. I, personally, am the queen of list making. At the end of each year, I take a little notebook and write all that I would like to accomplish in the new year and important things I need to do, such as taxes. I also jot down odd or important questions that I need to pursue and answer.
Cleaning is a big focus for me when the calendar year begins. I relish a clean home. Not just dusted and vacuumed, but a spectacular, thoroughly cleaned home. I make a list of all the rooms and areas that needs “going through,” including closets, drawers, and cabinets. Each week is dedicated to just one of them. If I am feeling really ambitious, I can certainly tackle more than that. For me, clearing clutter makes life less stressful and a little easier mentally (studies show that this is true for many people, primarily women). I also have a page in my notebook dedicated to upcoming purchases, from the things that I need to the things that I want. Another is devoted to work ideas and a different one with ideas to save money, as well as dedicated pages for thoughts about self-care, vacation ideas, home improvements, and classes I would like to take. Having this little notebook gives me direction and focus throughout the year. It allows me to see my accomplishments, my goals, and keep a clear, organized view of my life and surroundings. Setting certain monthly goals is also a nice idea that can make resolutions seem more doable: 12 months for 12 ideas.
However you approach this opportunity for a fresh start, may your year be filled with peace, happiness, and health.
