Spring is in the air, yet spring cleaning may be weighing heavily on your mind. This season of renewal seems to bring a desire for lightness and possibility, which extends to our own homes. Decluttering, cleaning, and organizing can be therapeutic, seeming to relieve our burdens. Getting rid of “things” is not easy but remembering that those “things” are not what define us can make it easier to let go.
So often we hold onto keepsakes that clutter our space, because we cling to these physical things that we associate with memories or people. Now is the time to move past the holding patterns and let go of those physical things that may be weighing you down. Try to stop procrastinating and just jump in. Write a list of what you would like to accomplish overall, as well as room-by-room goals. If those keepsakes that you treasure just keep on accumulating and multiplying, take photos and create a special book with descriptions and, perhaps, a story that explains what the objects mean to you. This may help you make more space and lightness in your home, while at the same time allowing you to concoct a special, personal book that holds more memories and insights than any collection of objects ever could!
