โ€œBy recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands โ€” your own.โ€ โ€“Mark Victor Hansen

As a business owner and mother of two, staying ahead of the game is no longer the easiest of tasks. I found that there are a few ways for me to keep motivated and avoid falling behind.

Keeping lists. I keep a PAPER list in a notebook. Yep, you heard me: paper. I take a a small notebook everywhere I go. But whether it is a paper list or an electronic one, keeping these lists is essential to keeping a busy schedule in order. I typically organize my schedule based on days, weeks, and months. I find my Moleskine really helpful to even planning much of the year. The notebook allows me to write down ideas and reminds me to research the things that interest me, so that I don’t forget. My handy notebook makes it easy to keep track of ideas and topics I come across during the day and the week. I like to make sure to set some time aside each week for creativity and research.

I also keep some paper next to the bed for random night-time thoughts (great ones, I hope!).

Everyday I set goals. Often the goals are much higher than what I can realistically achieve but this is my own way to keep pushing forward, maintaining my ambitions. I tend to leave wiggle room as the week progresses for more things to crop up.

One trick to feeling accomplished and focused is feeling healthy and good, overall. I work hard to maintain even the more common everyday things because they will make a big difference in how I feel.

Getting enough sleep.

Hydration by consuming at least half my body weight in ounces. Basically, I try to chug 8+ glasses of water a day. It may sound hard to do in a busy schedule, but I handle it by breaking it down. I typically count 10 gulps with each glass of water. I find that 8 gulps equals 1 cup. I definitely get in 80 gulps a day! Sounds easy, right?

Daily exercise, at least 30 minutes every day.

Meditation, 5- 15 minutes daily.

Time for relaxation, fun, and family time.

Periodically, I reevaluate my goals. Nothing’s wrong with setting your marks high!
