For years, I didn’t take a vacation. I always felt a little guilty during the rare times I went away. Now I realize the importance of taking a little time from everyday life, to recoup, recover, and rediscover.
When I am outside of the NYC hustle-and-bustle, the days feel longer, even though I often take the opportunity to go to bed early. Disconnecting, being present, and taking in the precious moments are key aspects of a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Oh, of course, heat and sun are also essential features! But, don’t get me wrong, I do feel the need to spend a little time answering emails. But I am vigilant about strictly limiting my time and I don’t take my phone everywhere I go. I can only hope that my children will experience more “non-connected” vacations as they grow up and that they learn to “disconnect” and take in life’s special moments as they happen.
Take your vacations and enjoy! And remember, February and March are the perfect times to get a little extra vitamin D.
