IMG_9784I’m all about finding peace, that mental calmness and tranquility. It’s fleeting, though. I search daily for in-the-moment, slowed-down life and presence. For me, time flies by, one day zooms to the next, and weeks just go by almost like days. The internet sure doesn’t help. Minutes seem like only a couple seconds. I look up to find 20 or 30 minutes have passed, or even an hour.

Time IS precious. My kids are precious, my husband is precious, life is precious. Just the other day, I was sitting in Brazil soaking up the sun. The internet was down so I was writing part of this blog post in the notes section on my phone. Someone had just given me patchouli essential oil, which I slathered on a little too heavily and the scent was overpowering. The sun was hot. One child was sleeping and the other watching cartoons with her grandmother. This moment will become a beautiful memory. Although I swear to remember this time always, it’s undeniably just not going to happen. Perhaps one day the smell of patchouli will bring me back to that precious moment in time. I just don’t know. Triggers that bring people to memories and past feelings can come unexpectedly.

By living in the moment, taking in the smells, the sounds, and even tasting the food I eat, I always hope that being present and mindful will slow life down a bit. Perhaps it is the presence of my two beautiful kids, but life speeds even by faster now.

Living in the moment is hard for me but I continue to try to consciously soak in all life has to offer.
