We think about health in many ways, all the time. We maintain our cars, so they run properly and don’t break down. We maintain our furnaces and appliances. This concept should also apply to our own bodies. We tend to pay attention to acute problems, but not necessarily everyday maintenance.

Ever think about what happens if a physical injury isn’t properly rehabilitated over time? The body starts compensating, creating areas of weakness and areas of over-use. The over-used areas can eventually break down, while at the same time the weak areas suffer and atrophy. Acknowledging the body as a whole entity can be a good first step.

For example, a foot injury can affect the ankle, the knee, the hip, the low back, the mid back and even the shoulder, over time. Injuries can have a domino effect, creating pain, discomfort, and weakness, making the body less stable. Physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, strength training, yoga, pilates, and proper body mechanics can all help rehabilitate injuries. Keeping the body in good shape is essential as we age. Regular tune ups, just like with a car, are recommended. Adding acupuncture and massage into your tune-up schedule can help not only physically, but mentally and emotionally.

Less pain, less injury, less stress –more happiness!
