As an acupuncturist, I often get asked whether I do acupuncture on myself. The answer is “yes.” While it isn’t always easy to do full body or back treatments on myself, I do needle my face with ease. Some of you may be thinking, “Why would you want to needle your face?” Good question.

Face and head treatments can be very relaxing. For me, this is really helpful because my brain doesn’t seem to stop. I have a particularly active brain, which makes it hard to find calmness at times. The TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) concept of fire rising in the body can be relieved with needles to the top of the head and the face, like a pressure gauge. I find these treatments very therapeutic and soothing. These points are also commonly used for cosmetic acupuncture treatments, to lift, tone, decrease wrinkles, and increase collagen which makes it all a win, win! As a trained professional, I don’t encourage someone who’s not trained in acupuncture to be needling themselves. Seek a trained acupuncture professional.
