Tell us about your background of your business and yourself.
I began Element Natural Healing Arts in 2001. I grew up in a small town near Knoxville, Tennessee. After completing my undergraduate degree in Biology pre-med, I moved to New Mexico to study Oriental Medicine at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. I also completed internships in hospitals in China, one in Beijing and one in Chengdu. Along with being an acupuncturist and herbalist, I am also a certified reflexologist and Maya abdominal therapy practitioner.

What inspired you to pursue your profession?
I have always been interested in women’s health. Before deciding to study Oriental medicine, I had wanted to pursue obstetrics and gynecology. While working on my undergraduate degree, I had had some truly amazing and inspiring results from acupuncture for the treatment of pelvic pain. I knew from first-hand experience that acupuncture worked and could be extremely beneficial for others. At the time, over 20 years ago, acupuncture wasn’t so commonly practiced. Acupuncture was something I wanted to learn prior to attending Western medical school. I also have a family history involving herbal medicine so the acupuncture-herb combo seemed to be a perfect fit for me. After my schooling in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, I moved to New York, started practicing and began working with other doctors such as ob/gyns, reproductive endocrinologists, general practitioners, sports medicine doctors, and many other specialty practitioners. I then realized that this was my passion, my calling, my vocation that I truly loved. People had less pain; women were successfully getting pregnant; patients were experiencing less anxiety, fewer digestive complaints, and feeling less stressed overall. I was making a difference. That is what inspired me. I want to make a positive difference in the lives of others so they can enjoy a better quality of life, and a happier, healthier life.

What do you feel are the key components to health?
Good circulation, proper nutrition, and adequate hydration I find to be key components to health. Without proper circulation the body becomes stagnant. Pain, inflammation, and disease can all stem from stagnation. We are what we eat. Proper nutrition is vital in optimizing how well our overall bodily systems work. A failing or improperly working system eventually leads to problems. Hydration is also a must. We must keep our cells hydrated so they can thrive. Proper nutrition and hydration fuel our body, allowing for adequate circulation and the energy to get moving.
