Now that summer is coming to a close, some of us are jumping back into work and school and other activities, so life can get pretty intense. It seems like very thing speeds up and expectations can press down upon us.

Here is a quick and easy breathing exercise to calm down when life gets stressful. Itโ€™s called the 4-7-8 exercise.

  • Exhale through through your mouth, really emptying your lungs.
  • Close your mouth and inhale through your nose while silently counting to four.
  • Hold your breath for a count of seven.
  • Exhale through your mouth forcefully, making a โ€œwhooshโ€ sound for a count of eight.
  • Repeat this entire cycle five times and feel its incredibly calming effects.
  • Use it as a way to beat stress before it can start to build!
