People often ask if acupuncture can be beneficial for allergies. The answer is a resounding โ€œYes!โ€ Acupuncture can lessen, and even eliminate, allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes and nose, water eyes, stuffy nose, and head pressure. Americans spend millions of dollars annually on allergy medications and treatments, including desensitization allergy shots.

Seasonal allergies are a hypersensitivity reaction that occurs when anti-bodies produced by lymphocytes interact with airborne particles, such as pollen. This reaction leads to an inflammatory process creating the miserably familiar allergy symptoms.

Acupuncture points help activate and balance an immune response to assist the body in dealing with the inflammatory reaction. To treat allergies, I use acupuncture points on the face, between the eyes, just above the nose, and areas next to the nose. I also manipulate points on the elbow, hands, feet, and just below the knees. Acupuncture treatments are recommended before the season starts, but can also be beneficial during allergy season.
