Massage Humor
Thanks to our massage therapist, Jenny Rathbun, for sharing!
Element’s Community Events
Earlier this year, we sent out a survey about our business and we received excellent feedback. Many people asked us about our community involvement and our participation in neighborhood events. While we have been quietly involved through donations, non-profit organizations support, and events such as teacher appreciations, we’ve also been using the resources we have at Element to offer more community-centered free events, such as the baby massage and yoga that we offered this past weekend.
Massage Therapy and Robotics: A New Frontier?
In the past decade, advancements in robotics and machine learning have started to change many aspects of human life. From the automated kiosks in grocery stores to proposed self-driving cars, to driverless train systems in some cities– the zeitgeist seems to be that anything is possible with artificial intelligence and sufficient technology.
Communication Is Key: Patient Centered Care
We all want to be involved in the critical decision about our own medical care and treatments. As a healthcare provider, I’m well aware that I can not just assume, or surmise my patient’s goals or needs. It is crucial for all health care providers, both traditional and Eastern, to discern what exactly a patient wants, hopes, and needs.
A Breathing Exercise for Relaxation
Now that summer is coming to a close, some of us are jumping back into work and school and other activities, so life can get pretty intense. It seems like very thing speeds up and expectations can press down upon us.
Translating Pain
Pain: annoying, distracting, uncomfortable, achy, sharp, stabbing, horrible, unbearable. Lots of words describe pain, but it’s not always easy to pinpoint with accuracy.
Using a pain scale to determine the level of pain, rather than a string of adjectives that can be extremely relative, can be useful in trying to treat it.
Autumn Arts in the Neighborhood
Ready or not, autumn is right around the corner. We’ve had a few chilly mornings this week, giving us a taste of what’s to come.
In the natural world, spring is the obvious season for new beginnings, but fall is a season of renewal, as well. Students are heading off to new classes and our most beloved cultural institutions come out of their summer hiatus to kick things off with a new season of programming.
Here are just a few of the exciting things coming to the neighborhood in September.
Survey Monkey Feedback
Recently we sent out a survey with a list of questions. All the tremendously positive feedback made us feel great! Hearing from you helps us understand what the community wants and needs. We loved hearing that so many of you like the newsletter!
The Wonders of Water
Water is essential. There is no life without water, obviously. Clearly, people need it for survival so it’s no surprise that it’s the universal beverage all over the world.
Easing Neck Pain with the DaVinci Tool
The DaVinci Tool is a helpful self-care tool that relieves muscle tension and pain. Made from medical grade, non-latex, hypoallergenic plastic, the DaVinci Tool has three distinct edges. The blunt edge is for softer work, good for larger muscle groups. The sharp edge is for more precise, deep muscle work, for direct massage that will break up adhesions and penetrate to deeper muscles. The scalloped edge is for fingers and toes and also doubles as a grip for self-massage.
BPA-free Plastic– Is It Safe?
The health risks of bisphenol A, otherwise known as BPA, have been widely known for almost a decade. Tupperware containers, for example, have been BPA free since 2010. Still, while manufacturers have switched to alternative types of plastic in recent years, many replacements have also been shown to leach into food and drinks, disrupting the human endocrine system, impairing immunity, and increasing the risk of certain cancers, among other adverse effects.
Inspiring Reading
I’m in the midst of reading a new book, On Managing Yourself, a collection of articles from the Harvard Business Review, and I’m finding myself completely inspired.
Books like these are easy and educational reads while I enjoy some time away from the office. It’s nice to re-evaluate and assess creativity, guidance, and ways to encourage inner peace, both for myself and my business.
