IMG_0735Large Intestine 4 (LI 4) is probably the best known and most commonly used point in acupuncture and acupressure. This point is versatile for many health conditions. LI 4 is located at the highest point of the fleshy, muscular area between the index finger and the thumb when they are held together, approximately level with the end of the crease. This point also has a Chinese name, He Gu, which translates to Joining Valley. This point is commonly used for strengthening the immune system (Wei Qi) and helping to expel wind cold and wind heat patterns that are associated with chills and fevers. LI 4 also helps to regulate sweating. This point is commonly used in point selections for problems located on the face (including the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and cheeks) such as toothaches, jaw problems, TMJ, mouth sores, allergies, and headaches (especially one sided, whole head, sinus related, or hypertension headaches), redness, swelling or pain in the eyes, nosebleeds, nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat, tinnitus, and acne. This point also helps to move energy and blood to help decrease chronic pain. LI 4 can also help induce labor. This point should not be used during pregnancy unless the goal is to induce labor.

This is a great point that people can press on their own for relief from these symptoms. It is easily accessible and versatile for a range of conditions. Press on.. for great health!
