1. What do you do at Element and how long have you been there?
I am a massage therapist and just started working regular shifts at Element, although I have been covering shifts since May.
2. Tell us a little bit about your backgroundโฆ and how you came to do what you do at Element.
Massage Therapy is a new profession to me (I just finished school in March), but I have had it in my life for many years. During my first year of college, I took a short massage workshop and became very interested in the structure of the body and how massage can help in the prevention of injuries and the healing process. Also, I have received many massages over the years and am aware of its positive effects.
3. What makes your practice satisfying/fulfilling for you? What is the most misunderstood aspect of what you do?
I really enjoy the process of talking to a client and finding out about the client’s issues, then personalizing a session to focus on these problem areas. The discovery and problem solving is interesting!
4. If you could tell a prospective/new client one or two things that are crucial to know about your practice, what would they be?
I think it’s important for people to learn how to read their own bodies. As they become more in touch with the sensations and results from a massage, I am, in turn, able to learn more and can help them in a more focused and productive way.
5. What do you like to do when youโre not at Element?
In addition to working at a medical massage practice, I am also a freelance dancer. I spend much of my time rehearsing and taking technique classes to stay in shape. I also love studying anatomy books and am interested in understanding the body at a deeper level!
