Nate has been fascinated with how the body works since he was young. His love and experience for sports and movement sparked his interest in massage and led him to pursue formal training.ย Nate is passionate about the body and movement and helping people become the fittest and healthiest versions of themselves.ย He likes working closely with athletes and active people who are body conscious and are looking to increase range of motion and improve overall structure and posture. His experience with massage, especiallyย myofascial and neuromuscular techniques, helped him gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of how the body functions and moves in space. Nate believes that massage, nutrition, and movement are the three essential building blocks of a healthy lifestyle.
1. What do you do at Element?
I am a massage therapist and my practice is centered around movement re-education and balancing the body from postural distortions.
2. Tell us a little bit about your backgroundโฆ and how you came to do what you do at Element.
I have been active my whole life and participated in many sports. I love the body and value understanding how it works as a whole. I have varied massage experience in different clinic and spa settings, which showed me how out of touch our society is with our bodies. I practice mostly myofascial massage, which is a deep and slow technique that allows the body to remember normal muscle length and tension and creates body awareness. I believe every aspect of your life is improved with proper posture and balance.
3. What makes your practice satisfying/fulfilling for you? What is the most misunderstood aspect of what you do?
Helping people to remember what it feels like to be present in their bodies and the freedom that comes with movement and awareness is my passion. Massage is essentially a wringing out the muscles to promote fluid balance and increase circulation. Our bodies are meant to move, a little movement and stretching daily goes a very long way.
4. If you could tell a prospective/new client one or two things that are crucial to know about your practice, what would they be?
I can only apply so much technique and knowledge to the body through my massage. The quality of the massage depends on the willingness of the client to relax. Nobody knows your body better than you do and I am simply a conduit for the natural healing power of our bodies.
5. What do you like do when youโre not at Element?
I workout, meditate, stretch, convert people to veganism, practice body awareness, educate myself, question the status quo, and make videos.
