TrulaIt was only after I had my daughter that I really had to stop and smell the flowers on a daily basis (for almost 3 years now). In our fast-paced lives with not enough hours in the day, this concept seems virtually impossible. Having a child slows the rush, unless one has 24-7 child care, which we do not. I make it a daily decision to slow down and stop, to take in all that life has to offer, to be alert and aware of my surroundings, to be grateful for what I have. My little girl (and now my 12-week-old son) have indeed made me pause and appreciate the beauty that surrounds me, the people in my life, and the love we have for one another. I am now more present than ever before–with the exception of the times I am exhausted from those sleepless nights with small children!–which I treasure, in some odd way.
