It’s easy to lose motivation. Sometimes we just need a break. Life’s ups and downs can make it difficult for us to stay focused and laser-sharp every minute of every day. In the big scheme of things, that’s ok. Sometimes taking a break is essential for our physical and mental health and that means it’s time for a vacation, stay-cation, or any other kind of reprieve. But make sure it is true reprieve from the stress of daily life: turn the phone off (or limit yourself to checking it once or twice a day), build in time to daydream and chill out, and resist the temptation to be “productive” or too constrained by schedule during your time off.
Feeling guilty or stressed can often lead to procrastination. Getting your life back on track and feeling motivated again can be encouraged with a greater sense of happiness and healthfulness. Getting adequate sleep, avoiding sugar, alcohol, greasy fried foods, and adding in more fruit, vegetables and water, as well as exercise, are also ways to combat stress, anxiety, and the unhealthy habits that are so easy to form. Finding time to meditate, or just to breathe with deliberation, is also an incredible release for the mind and body. Ultimately, a healthier lifestyle that includes “time off” in regular intervals leads to a better you.
